Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive procedure performed in the abdomen or pelvis using small incisions and the aid of a camera. The advantages to having a laparoscopic procedure as opposed to an open procedure are reduction of pain due to smaller incisions, less bleeding and less recovery time.
Robotically assisted surgery allows the surgeon better control over their instruments and an improved view of the surgical site. The main objective is to lower or eliminate tissue trauma associated with open procedures. Surgeons need to have additional training in order to utilize a robotically assisted surgical system.
